A Month of Movies: M3GAN, A MAN CALLED OTTO, MISSING and 80 FOR BRADY

January 2023 presents new contenders for the Sight & Sound all time movie list.

A month when a killer doll movie emerged victorious over two Toms.

Over on OFF SCREEN DEATH Dave and Mike countdown the Sight & Sound Greatest FIlm of All Time list while also taking turns making their own picks (expect KEEPING THE FAITH to appear AGAIN) but they also see new movies.

Because they need their fix. This is what that habit Brough them in the month of January. Allison Williams continuing to make bad life choices in horror, GRAN TORINO starring Tom Hanks, the -ing verse continues with a John Cho cameo and not as much sex positivity as the hosts would like in regards to Jane Fonda. Enjoy and if you enjoy continue following OFF SCREEN DEATH!

Thirty Years of MATINEE Showings at the SOBER CINEMA

On January 29, 1993 Cathy Moriarty was John Goodman's sugar mama.

Thirty years of procreating to save the human race...

...and to preserve the necessary demographics for movies like ANT-MAN. Only better. Much better.

Joe Dante's family film from 1993 provides the appropriate material for three 40 year old men to discuss older men chasing high school girls, refusing your children the joys of MYSTERY SCIENCE THEATER 3000 for fear of them becoming the bullied and how everyone in the Civil War looked like Richard Gere. That last one may be a future episode from the vaults of 1993 but for now... MANT!

If you want more follow along as they cover the films of 1983 this year and continue 1993 at the movies on our Patreon feed such as the family film BODY OF EVIDENCE!

SICK of Pandemic Entertainment w/ Web of TRILOGY IN THEORY

We continue to support Peacock originals though the downloads don't follow.

We debate art that will survive and end up on THE MEG.

Yes, that would be the film starring Jason Statham and a giant shark. I think. I didn't personally watch it but returning guest Web of TRILOGY IN THEORY remains enthusiastic for that franchise. Which means we can now officially dismiss DEEP BLUE SEA from our collective memories which is something already happening with a movie that is just days old in the Peacock Original SICK. Attracted by our second favorite Kevin (next to Smith) known for writing the SCREAM series we quarantine at home with this streaming release and struggle with what we retain amidst our rampant consumption of entertainment.

Things get heavy and then your host brings up STATION ELEVEN. Enjoy!

ALIVE in 2023 at the SOBER CINEMA

On January 15, 1993 Ethan Hawke introduced a new kink.

Thirty years of appropriating cannibal characters.

Maybe Mr. Hawke and company could have let these roles go. But then again how would future generations understand the appropriate amount of protein for a football club stuck in the mountains if not for an alumni of DEAD POETS SOCIETY. This episode is here to discuss the pop culture merits of the film ALIVE which has not been competitive with the Pearl Jam song of the same era.

And it's not likely the hosts of SOBER CINEMA can fix this. Hopefully you enjoy the episode!

A VIOLENT NIGHT for THE HOLIDAY

In search of beefy men who listen to podcasts this holiday season.

The holidays are about what one wants; not needs.

However your host absolutely needs to discuss the greatest Christmas (AND New Year's) film of all time in Nancy Meyers' THE HOLIDAY. Even if it means teasing the beefy body of one David Harbour in VIOLENT NIGHT to guest Bernadette from Australia.

Along the way we discuss how Jim from THE OFFICE overtook Ed Burns in the Hollywood rat race and the acceptable forwardness of Jude Law showing up in the middle of the night drunk needing a place to sleep and urinate. Perhaps he heard the siren call of Cameron Diaz singing along to THE KILLERS? 2006 truly was a wonderful time. 2022 was terrible. Happy New Year!

PARASITE is a Best Picture BARBARIAN

We doubt Baby SkarsgÄrd will be so honored this Oscar season.

An American and an Australian praise good Wi-Fi and Bong-Joon ho.

Two things we can't live without. Along with a sturdy pizza box and a discrete maid. These are just a few of life's pleasantries that we lament not getting as often as we should at the movies. That is until the inevitable success of our first production BRUNETTE gets a bag of cash from those fools at Netflix. Until then. You have a podcast on one of the best Best Picture winners of all time. And that will just have to do for now.

Returning guest Bernadette from Australia has no plans for an Airbnb stay after this watch.

BARBARIAN is Mother's Milk at the Movies

Justin Long is offered a beverage.

Baby Skarsgard on the other hand has various refreshments to offer...

...and we are listening to him. That being said there is some disagreement about his hospitality in the latest "don't reveal too much" horror film BARBARIAN but still... he's still not Justin Long bad.

Which apparently is so well known that it causes walkouts in at least one Kentucky theater. Meanwhile in Australia there's more concern over finding a hair in one's drink. And that's as far as we can go in these show notes without going into spoilers. We both greatly enjoyed this movie so come back and give us a listen after you watch OR just listened to the more sexually charged recap on this podcast.

TICKET TO PARADISE in PALM SPRINGS

Even in paradise we are just sad boys.

Zach Braff is attacked in paradise...

...and even though he does not star in either TICKET TO PARADISE or PALM SPRINGS we still feel like he deserves it. And we deserve to see cinematic sex acts from Ms. Roberts and Mr. Clooney but such is our penance for picking on the leading man from SCRUBS. Along the way we revisit the joys of discovering a summer 2020 Hulu release even if the passion isn't quite there to see Andy Samberg in cinematic sex acts.

This is a fickle podcast.

However returning guest Bernadette from Australia enjoys the bullying of J.K. Simmons!

DON'T WORRY DARLING We Married THE STEPFORD WIVES

And we prefer the plight of THE TRUMAN SHOW or even MISERY. Fun!

This episode is the closest Harry Styles will ever get to being a Reddit user.

As you may be able to discern... our podcast is decidedly less sexy than what director Olivia Wilde wanted for her new thriller DON'T WORRY DARLING. We can assure her and our dear listeners that there will be time to discuss all sizes of breasts (THE STEPFORD WIVES) and orgasmic sounds of delight (once again THE STEPFORD WIVES) but for now... a discarded roast. That and other smells of romance permeate this production. I'm surprised you are still even reading these show notes as opposed to listening already.

Returning guest Bernadette from Australia makes Mark Zuckerberg upset. Probably.

Going BLONDE for MY WEEK WITH MARILYN

We should have gone with HBO's TV movie starring Kentucky girl Ashley Judd.

Also let us not forget Mira Sorvino.

Alas we are talking an awful lot about Norma Jean and Marilyn but not NORMA JEAN & MARILYN, apologies to Ms. Judd and Sorvino. And also apologies to Ana de Armas and Michelle Williams! You did your best but the latest Netflix release is disturbingly focused on creepy babies and the other movie has Eddie Redmayne.

Returning guest Bernadette from Australia gives her expertise on the source material, hedges and which Marilyn Monroe film her mother would prefer. Enjoy!
